Home & Security
- Walk the interior and exterior of the property
- Check doors, windows, locks and other entry points
- Look for signs of unauthorized entry or unusual activity
- Check garage doors and exterior access areas
- Bring in packages, mail or newspapers as requested
- Confirm security systems appear to be operating normally
Interior
- Look for visible water leaks or moisture
- Check beneath sinks and around toilets
- Look for signs of mold, mildew or unusual odors
- Check ceilings and walls for evidence of water intrusions
- Confirm HVAC is operating and temperature is appropriate
- Check for unusual sounds, conditions or changes
- Run faucets and flush toilets during extended absences
- Check refrigerators, freezers and other designated appliances
- Water interior plants as requested
Exterior
- Walk the home's exterior and grounds
- Look for visible storm, wind or water damage
- Check for fallen limbs, debris or other concerns
- Observe roof, gutters and downspouts from ground level
- Look for obvious pest or wildlife activity
- Check exterior lighting and designated fixtures
- Observe landscaping and irrigation for obvious problems
- Check outdoor furniture, porches, decks and other designated areas
Seasonal & Preventative Care
- Replace HVAC filters on schedule
- Replace smoke/CO detector batteries as needed
- Check weatherstripping and exterior caulking
- Prepare designated outdoor areas for seasonal changes
- Check exterior faucets and hoses
- Help prepare the home before or after severe weather
- Identify minor maintenance needs before they become larger repairs
Service & Contractor Oversight
- Provide access for approved contractors or service providers
- Meet contractors at the property when requested
- Confirm scheduled work has been performed
- Photograph completed work or areas of concern
- Communicate observations back to you
- Help coordinate follow-up when additional attention is needed
Arrival & Departure
For second homes and frequent travelers, visits can also be tailored around your schedule.
Before you arrive: Adjust thermostats, turn on designated lights, bring in packages, check outdoor areas and make sure the home is ready for your return.
After you leave: Walk through the home, check doors and windows, adjust thermostats and lighting, remove designated perishables or trash, and make sure the property is secure.
Your Visit Report
Following each scheduled visit, you'll receive a concise update confirming that your customized checklist has been completed, along with photographs or notes when something deserves your attention.
HomeTending's specialty is to observe, provide detailed checks, and look for visible signs of concern. We are not licensed Home Inspectors or certified to inspect electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems — however, we can work with those trades to provide the best care for your home.
